Drop-leaf table with a pedestal base, supported by four flaring legs ornamented with abstract carved acanthus leaves and fitted with cast brass lion's paw casters, all below a shaft featuring a reeded urn, and a table frame fitted with turned wooden drops at each corner, one real and one false drawer facade with ringed lion's head pulls in each end, and hinged drop leaves with scalloped corners. The table is in excellent condition, retaining the range of elements typical of the form, and is extremely well made. The table has been traditionally attributed to Duncan Phyfe (1768-1854), but several New York shops produced furniture of this sort.
