Label Text:
Trains greatly increased the mobility of the French, allowing the growth of suburbs and increasing the speed that images were presented to them. After Kertész purchased a Leica camera in 1928, the photographs he created reflected the new speed of modern life. The Leica allowed him to shoot photographs using rolled 35mm film rather than cumbersome glass plates. Not needing to pause to reload his camera, the spontaneity and dynamic quality of Kertész's photographs increased.
