Description:
Photographs of the guests at Miss Baker's Ball in 1892; When C. Alice Baker (1833-1909) purchased the Frary House in 1890, she dreamed of restoring the home in order to hold a colonial-style ball in the tavern ballroom on the second floor. On August 25, 1892, she organized a ball which requested guests to dress in early 18th-century costume. 69.1351: Top photo. slightly blurred and faded with age, Four people, two ladies and two gentlemen, dancing. Reverse inscription reads: "Mrs. M. Y. Wynne, Henry B. Fuller, Frere Champney [later crossed out], Mary Williams Fuller. 69.1351a. Bottom Photo: Six ladies standing in a receiving line, reverse inscription reads: "Miss Emma L. Coleman, Miss Lane, Miss Baker, in a receiving line. Lady on left unidentified [this later crossed out and "Margaret Miller" written in] Two ladies on right unidentified. Examples of these photographs by Emma Coleman are seen in a photograph by Frances and Mary Allen of the First Deerfield Arts and Crafts exhibition in the Village Room, c. 1899 in the Collection of the Pocumtuck Valley Memorial Association.
