SKINNER CATALOGUE:
A thrusting weapon, or sword, from the Kingsmill (Gilbert) Islands - middle west Pacific Ocean, consisting of a broad wooden blade coming to a blunt point at one end and to a handle at the other - made of palm wood and set with shark's teeth. These weapons are made for slashing and thrusting rather than for a direct cutting blow. Their use has necessitated a defensive armour that is peculiar to these islands. This armour is made from the fiber of the husk of the coconut and protects every portion of the body except the hands and feet. Cat. 7/25/1934.
