Description:
A drum mechanism with alternately spaced teeth which is at the basis of the timing control of a clock.

Label Text:
This device demonstrates the controlled motion principle found in most clocks. Leonardo placed alternately spaced teeth on the rim of a large drum. As the drum is rotated, the pallet is allowed to escape the teeth by swinging from side to side. The escaping pallet drives a sliding rod controlling the movement at regular intervals. - Dr. Roberto A. Guatelli
