This work is a portrait of Kirwin after their top surgery. With the addition of writing and visual manipulation through lithography, they created a compelling self-portrait loaded with personal meaning that reflects the self-identity of the emerging artist. Kirwin said they grew up “in a family and rural community where queerness was hidden and never talked about; where feelings were shushed and swept under the rug.” I Exist Between Every Line substantiates part of a thread they are constantly untangling “in an effort [to] learn more about their own place in the world, as well as [to] expose queer existence and representation by and for queer bodies around the world.”
