Label Text:
This photograph was part of the 2015 exhibition Jonathon Keats: Photographing Deep Time. Featuring the conceptual work of Keats, Class of 1994, the presentation explored the idea of what Amherst College and the Pioneer Valley landscape would look like in the year 3015. At the start of the show, Keats installed a simple pinhole camera at the top of the college’s Stearns Steeple. This image shows a diagram of the camera’s placement and area of exposure. It will stay in its current location for the next thousand years, surveying a millennium in a single continuous exposure in order to reveal the evolution of the college and our impact on the surrounding environment through the lens of deep time.
