Label Text:
In 1780, Gandolfi began work on the mural for San Vitale in Ravenna. Unfortunately the master did not live to see the realization of his ambitious project, but this preparatory drawing and other studies by his hand make clear his governing intentions. The mural now seen in the dome of the church was completed after Gandolfi's death by Jacop Guarama (1720-1808) - Frank Trapp 1989
