Description:
ca. late 19th or early 20th century plaster cast of a marble original dating to the Classical Period, ca. 470-457 BCE. The metope sculpture on the Temple of Zeus at Olympia depicts the twelve labors of Herakles. In this block of the metope, the eleventh labor of Herakles is pictured. Atlas, to the far right, brings the Apples of the Hesperides to Herakles, positioned in the center holding up the sky. Athena, standing to the far left, looks on.
