Description: ca. late 19th or early 20th century plaster cast of a marble original dating to the Classical Period, ca. 447-432 BCE. According to the organizational system implemented by W.B. Dinsmoor and A. Michaelis, this is a cast of block VII, known as the Ergastinai (‘weavers’) block, from the east frieze of the Parthenon, located on the Acropolis in Athens, Greece. The Parthenon frieze depicts the Panathenaic procession held in honor of Athena, the patron goddess of Athens. On this block, a pair of girls, on the left, stand side by side. Two more girls stand in file to their right. All four figures are facing left. The original marble relief after which this cast is made is located at the Louvre in Paris, France.
