Description:
English mezzotint engraving on copper plate of George I, King of Great Britain and Ireland from 1 August 1714 until his death, and ruler of Hanover in the Holy Roman Empire from 1698, which was printed by engraver John Smith (1652-1743) after a circa 1714 portrait of George I by Sir Godfrey Kneller (1646-1723), the leading portrait painter in England during the late 17th and early 18th centuries and court painter to British monarchs from Charles II (1630-1685) to George I. The portrait is titled, "Georgius D.G. Mag. Britiannia Francia et Hibernia..."
