Description:
Oil portrait of Queen Charlotte of England in profile, one of a pair of small oil on wood paintings with her husband, King George III who reigned 1760-1820 (see HD 58.240), done in oil on wood in what are probably the original frames. Although this oil portrait of George III appears to be based on a portrait by Allan Ramsey (1713-1784), a Scottish portrait-painter, in 1762, the source of Queen Charlotte's portrait is currently unknown. Her dress and ornamentation is similar to potraits done by Johann Zoffany (1733-1810) in 1764 and by Allan Ramsey 1765.
