Description:
One of 72 illustrations for "Original Journals of the Lewis and Clark Expedition, 1804-1806" by Lewis, Meriwether, 1774-1809; Clark, William, 1770-1838. Chapter IV. From Teton River to the Mandans - Clark's Journal and Orders, September 25-October 26, 1804. Order by Lewis, October 13. These engravings are based on original watercolor paintings by Karl Bodmer (1809-1893), and first published in Maximilian Prince of Wied's travel narrative, Reise in das innere Nord-America in den Jahren 1832-1834 (Coblenz: J.
