Description:
This buckskin pipe bag has a beaded border (with a white background and small blue and yellow designs) that encompass the top of the bag. A beaded panel, consisting of a white background with a yellow eight pointed star and small yellow and blue triangles is seen on the bag, as well. (On the reverse side, this panel repeats itself, in contrast to Lakota pipe bags that feature different pictorals on either side.) Beneath the panel is buckskin fringe. Each strip of thin fringe has been individually wrapped with aniline dyed porcupine quills. Though the quills are intact, their red, purple, and yellow dyes have faded. Plain, unwrapped fringe dangles beneath this portion. Thin pieces of buckskin are present on the top of the bag to close it. AP2018
