Description:

Label Text:
Nègre used his photographs as preparation for paintings. His favorite theme was the inhabitants of the streets of "Old Paris." 'Pifferai', itinerant Italian street musicians, were often the subject of Nègre's lens. He created the illusion of stopped motion with the careful posing of the figures in his photographs. Nègre rejected the reproduction of precise architectural details in favor of the suggestion of poetic charm.
