Description:
Letter related to the family of Sanders Ken Grems Nellis (1817-1865). The letter reads: "New York 2 April 1836 [?]/ S Leonard Esq./ Dear sir / Your favor[?] of the 26th[?] advising of / Mr. Buck having made two drafts on us[?] / (but do not state the amount) is received./ the draft will be protected [?] on pre-/ sentation. We[?]are pleased to hear that he / has 2000 barrels flour on the canal to be / forwarded to us on the opening of the navi-/ gation. The price [?]continues high with / us say [?] of 8 [?] quantity in market / very small. Whiskey in de mand at 40[cents] / for ---[?]and [?]brandy./ We received from the Lewis Co. Bank / their draft for five hundred dollars on your / account which is to your credit./ Your friend / Gilchrist & Co[?}" The outisde reads: "Gilchrist [?] / 36 / Stephen Leonard Esquire / Post Master / Lowville / Lewis County" , stamped " New York / April"
