Description:
standing nude female with long hair, on marble square with proper right hand atop tree stump like base draped with cloth

Label Text:
Label text for ARH 240 French and Italian Drawings Renaissance through Romanticism, written by Amanda Manocherian, class of 2015:

Lorenzo Tiepolo, son of Giambattista, was one of seven siblings. He joined his father’s workshop ten years after his older brother Giandomenico, and, though his gifts were limited in comparison, functioned as a diligent and trusted helper assisting in such works as the frescos in the Würzburg Residenz in Germany and the Palacio Real in Spain. After his father’s death in 1770 he stayed in Madrid where he had some success working on a series of pastel portraits for members of Spanish royalty.

This image of a somewhat hazy female nude defined by soft lines and rounded shapes (with her demurely covered genitalia) exhibits the typical trappings of modesty and sentiment of the period.
