Label Text:
Label text for ARH 240 French and Italian Drawings Renaissance through Romanticism, written by Carol Kaminsky:

From his first major work, The Charging Hussar, exhibited in the Paris Salon of 1812, Géricault was fascinated by horses throughout his tragically short career. He rode actively and made countless studies of horses and cavalrymen, the Hussars. Here these equine studies intertwine with men wrestling and anatomical studies of male legs—musings rather than a preparation for a larger, more finished work.
