Label Text:
Label text for ARH 240 French and Italian Drawings Renaissance through Romanticism, written by Suzanne Folds McCullagh, class of 1973, Curator of Prints and Drawings at the Art Institute of Chicago:

Long thought to be the work of one of Raphael’s principal assistants, Pietro Buonaccorsi (called Perino del Vaga), this drawing has recently been recognized as the work of an artist who was in turn a principal assistant to Perino. Primarily a painter of grotesques and a stuccoist, Luzio worked with his master on the Palazzo Doria, Genoa (1528/30) and the Castel Sant’Angelo, Rome (1543–48). Following Perino’s death in 1547, Luzio worked on San Giovanni in Laterano and the Palazzo Spada. A large group of his decorative designs are in the Royal Library, Windsor Castle.
