hosoban; kodomo-e

Label Text:
This print is signed at lower-right "Ishikawa Toyomasa sha" ('copied/described by Ishikawa Toyomasa') and bears no other identifying marks.

It is possible that this print is from the same series as another hosoban ('narrow sheet') print in the collection of the Library of Congress, Washington, D.C. (call no. FP 2 - JPD, no. 2307 (B size) [P&P]). As both feature pairings of seasonal flowers — here, the peony blossom above the drum and the cranes printed on the boy's clothes — it is possible that they are from an unidentified series about the seasons or seasonal festivals.
