Description:
Autumn; apple trees; Mt Norwottuck; mountains; Amherst

Label Text:
Lorna Ritz, a local artist best known for her abstract paintings, has been drawing Mount Norwottuck since 1986. Ritz’s countless drawings of Mount Norwottuck and the apple trees are always executed from the same vantage point of the Mount Pollux Conservation Area. With expressive strokes of intense color, Ritz explores the mountain as it changes over time, from season to season, and with the vicissitudes of the weather.

This drawing captures a mid-autumn view of Mount Norwottuck—there is still lush greenery, but the apple trees are taupe and largely bare, the mountain is swathed in burnt orange, and the sky is disappointingly overcast.
