Description:
Powder horn inscribed: “CHRISTOPHER ANDRUS HIS / HORN ROXBURY / CAMPS / NOVEMBER / 14 1775 / Tom Gage.” Although not well engraved, the carving of the Andrus horn is imaginative and humorous. Figures include a Lorelei, or mermaid, and a wonderful vignette of the Devil holding a serpent with the legend “Tom Gage,” commander of the British troops in Boston. The only listing for Christopher Andrus during the Revolution is a Connecticut militiaman who enlisted to reinforce General Gates at the Battle of Saratoga.
