Description:
Early 20th century decorative suit of armor.

Orginal label: "A complete suit of armor, probably of the early 17th century. Venetian, and probably, because of its elaborate decoration, belonging to one of the doges. Venetian coat of arms, the Lion of St. Mark, chased in a shield on the breast plate, surmounted by a doge's cap, and bearing the inscription "PA TIBI MARCE EVANGELISTA MEOX VE". The entire front is elaborately chased and lined, with a double headed dragon on the helmet below the vizor, single headed dragons on breast plate, shoulder, hip, and leg guards, and gauntlets, cherubs on elbow guards, an assembly of shields, spears and battle axes on lower breast plate, and all intervening spaces covered with scrolled leaf designs. Armor in excellent condition, except that most of the joints are very stiff. Six sight holes, arranged in a triangle, on each side of the vizor. For a man about 5'5". Weight: 40 lbs."
