Label Text: Label text for ARH 240 French and Italian Drawings Renaissance through Romanticism, written by Sara Ottomano, class of 2015:
Mostly found in French public collections, the graphic oeuvre of Pierre Parrocel includes a series of eighty drawings that center on the life of Jesus Christ. This study on a rather unusual brown sheet depicts Christ’s conversation with the Samaritan woman at the well. Despite well-known stereotypes and prejudices relating to her person and ethnicity, she is treated as worthy of instruction and conversion.
