Description:
allegory of the assassination attempt on Bonaparte on 24 December 1800; on the left the Fates unravelling a thread symbolising Napoleon's life; on the right an old man personifying Destiny has stolen the Fates' scissors and keeps the urn intended for Bonaparte's ashes firmly closed, indicating that the Consul's time has not yet come
