AD))): In this print, Lautrec depicts a middle-aged woman sitting slightly in front of a middle-aged man, both of whom are richly dressed: the blond-haired woman wears a fur coat, shown through small brushstrokes and spattered black ink and an extravagant black hat, while the white-bearded man wears a solid black suit and a black top hat, adorned with a small yellow pocket square. They seem to be in a red theater box, watching a concert. The solid blacks contrast with the softer red and yellow hues of the figures and their surroundings. She looks intently at the scene, her hands and arms resting delicately on the box’s ledge and the light shining directly in her face, while the man looks down, cast by a faint red shadow: his saddened gaze falls towards unknown space.
