Description: Poem by John Malcolm Brinnin illustrated
Label Text: Excerpted label text from the Curatorial Fellowship exhibition "Color in Containment," March 22 – April 29, 2018: Color has a reputation for being impossible to describe. Not only does color frequently challenge language, it actively defies it. With that said, it isn’t uncommon to encounter both color and text as central elements in a single work of art. Sante Graziani’s Oedipus: His Cradle Song features poetry in relationship to vibrant color images. The eye follows the mesmerizing arc of the rainbow before considering the symmetrical figures and the appropriated text. Luminous color is the guide framing the entire composition, while the text waits patiently to be noticed in the bottom half of the page. - Margaret Wilson (M.F.A.
