SKINNER LABEL: These daggers were especially used in duels, it being the practice at that time to hold them in the left hand, with the thumb above and the guard below, using them to ward off the adversary's blows, while attacking with the sword in the right hand.
SKINNER CATALOGUE: A 16th century style French main gauche (left hander). 12" x 3/4", two edge blade, with point broken off and with hollow thumb indent at the heel. 10" straight cross hilt, ending at each end in a rosette disc; straight ridged grip, bound with fine braided wire and terminating in a ridged ball pommel. Solid triangular guard extending from cross hilt to pommel, with an elaborate flower and scroll design pierced and repoussed. Gray tape and ball lanyard. Weight: 19 ozs. Cat. 10/14/1935.
