Description:
Twenty-three men in Franciscan habits being crucified, arranged in two rows of eleven crosses receding into the background with one cross in the foreground between the two rows. Beneath the crosses, soldiers stand about, some piercing the sides of the crucified men with lances. A soldier on horseback in the lower left corner and three soldiers sitting in the foreground in the lower right corner. In the sky, emerging from clouds, are putti holding palms and wreaths of martyrdom. In the top center, St. John the Baptist sits on a cloud as if directing the putti.
