Description: ōban tate-e; bijinga; nishiki-e
Label Text: This print is signed at lower-right "Okonomi ni suki Kunisada ga" ('drawn to please by Kunisada'), accompanied by the seal — the katakana character "to" — of publisher Yamaguchiya Tōbei of the firm Kinkōdō, and the kiwame seal of the censor. The courtesan and her place of employ are indicated at upper-right beneath the title of the print, the syllable "ro," which is printed within the red circle at top-right. The series title is printed right-to-left at the top of the print. Vertically descending at the right of the panel is a poem which employs the syllable "ro."
The traditional order of the Japanese syllabary, the "iroha," was a popular subject of many ukiyo-e artists and has here been translated in the title as "ABC." - BB, 2014
