SKINNER CATALOGUE: An old hooped bonnet in brown silk, sometimes called bashful bonnet or calash from the old fashioned chaise or shay, the top of which folded in the same way. Back stiffened, sides lined with white silk and lace. Style worn about 1800. Extended length about 18". cat. 1/11/1937.
