Description:
"ELEGANT PASTIME, or/ AN HOUR'S INSTRUCTIVE CONVERSATION", a quiz game consisting of 32 pairs of cards with the question cards numbered 1-32 and the corresponding answer cards marked from A ot FF, in a wooden box with a sliding top (probably not original to the game). The questions range from geography to philosophy, such as "Which are the principal Rivers in England?" and "How may the productions of Nature be classed?" and "Who is the poorest man living." The answer cards are dealt around the table and the dealer begins asking a question by laying down a qustion card. Whoever has the correct answer deposits that card, and if worng has to pay a forfeit (forfeits to be redeemed, at the conclusion, in the usual way"). Whoever is out of cards first becomes the next dealer. If no one can determine the correct answer, the dealer must refer to the key on the Instruciton sheet to give them the correct answer. See 95.037.1 for the instructions on how to play the game.
