SKINNER CATALOGUE: A middle 19th century Hitchcock arm chair. Not marked. Painted brown black with gold banding and stencils and yellow linings, all original and in excellent condition. Top rail triple ring turned each side of center panel, which is decorated with a grape and fruit stencil. Lower slat wide, shaped, very slightly curved on top edge, and stencilled with a flower, fruit, and leaf design. Both stencils are finely shaded and well preserved. Back posts slightly ring turned just above the seat, arm posts finely ring, vase, and ball turned, front legs slightly rign and ball turned and with ball feet, single front stretcher turned and tapered. Two side and single back stretcher plain. Arm recessed, spreading, and terminating in a semi scroll. Twisted rush seat not original. Height: back 34 1/2" seat: 17 3/4" Diam. legs 1 1/2" Cat. 8/20/1936
