SKINNER CATALOGUE: A 19th century Boston rocker in maple. Characteristic of this type which was probably the most popular chair in this country during much of the 19th century. Rolled seat and arms, shaped seven spindle back with top slat curved at the ends, blocked in the middle; front legs, stretcher, and arm posts ring, groove, and vase turned; single stretchers front, sides, and back. Painted a very dark brown with yellow decorative lines; top rail stencilled with a dish, fruit, and floral design in yellow, now much faded. Cat. 8/20/1836
