SKINNER CTALOGUE: An 18th century New England splat back side chair showing Dutch influence. Maple throughout except pine splat. The Dutch influence shows in the notched saddle top rail, which pegs into, and forms a continuation of, the plain back posts; bottom rail straight. Splat is inverted vase design. Back posts plain except for single ring turning just above bottom rail. Front posts also have but one ring turning, and simple turned feet. Two front stretchers long vase turned, two side and single back stretchers plain. Twisted rush seat. Cat. 8/20/1936
