SKINNER CATALOGUE: An old cradle in black walnut with covered head. Dovetail construction. Two handle holes cut in the sides near the head.
From old family letters, the cradle appears to have been purchased about 1808 by Major David Smith; born January 1, 1758 in South Hadley; a merchant in Granby; married Clarissa Day September 23, 1788; seven children, the youngest, born 1809, being the mother of E. Sophia Eastman, from whom the cradle comes to the museum. Length 42" Width 14 3/4" Height (at head) 27" Cat. 1/11/1937
