SKINNER CATALOGUE: An old square bed key in pine, with round ash handle. Corners roughly chamfered. Used to tighten the cords of cord beds. If the cords were not stretched very taught, the bed would sag under the weight of the sleeper, soon causing trouble with the back and kidneys. Marked (hand carved) W M June 1834. kEY 14 1/2" X 2" X 1 3/4" Handle 15 3/4" x about 15/16" diam. Cat. 4/4/1936
