SKINNER CATALOGUE: Chair. An 18th century slat back armchair which shows "Northern" influence in the posts; "Central" in the slats and front stretchers. Probably of New Jersey origin. Maple throughout, except for second slat and arm posts, which are replacements. Four slats, boldly serpentine, tenoned into the posts, top and third pegged. Back posts plain below the seat, turned between slats, with spheroidal finials. Front posts ring turned, and with ball feet, terminate just above the seat. Arms recessed, curved on the inside, cusped on the outer, supported by single spindles (replacements) which tenon through the arm at the top end, through the top side stretcher at the lower. Two front stretchers boldly ring and vase turned and both show much wear. Twisted rush seat not original. Height: back 42 3/4" seat 17 3/8" Diam. posts 1 5/8" Cat. 8/20/1936.
