SKINNER CATALOGUE: Chair. A Canadian wing back arm chair of individual design and make. Birch and oak. The back posts are squared and are raked at about a 10 degree angle. Front posts and stretchers are turned in long swells, with shallow decorative lines and narrow bands, the arms are hand shaped and raked down at about 15 degrees. There are two back slats, both with the same geometrical decoration, the upper one cut out, the lower with the lines gouged only. The wings are open, are made of a curved hickory rail with two spindles, and resemble a dog sled rail. This rail and the stretchers tenon through the back post, the front posts through the arms, and all other joints are mortise and tenon, pegged. Seat of flat thin shaved wood, woven 2/2 twill, probably original. Probably 18th century. Height: back 43 3/4" seat 18" Diam. posts 2" Cat. 8/20/1936
