Description:
English delft circular plate decorated in blue, purple, orange-red, and green. The plate is covered with an overall chinoiserie landscape scene, with the well decorated with an island with one tall conical tree, other trees and foliage, houses, and rocks in the background; with two fishermen in a small boat facing each other; and a man fishing off a pier. The left side of the rim has another fisherman in a boat. and on the rim above the scene are two flocks of flying birds, separated by a cloud. Fragments with this pattern have been excavated at several sites at Colonial Williamsburg; and the design is also found on plates with sopra-bianco-sopra borders.
