Given to Dr. H.O. Hastings of Holyoke when he was a boy in payment for cutting 17 cords of wood and bought from him by Mr. Skinner. This type of gun appears to have been developed by D.H. Hilliard, a gunmaker who worked for a third of a century in Cornish, N.H. These guns were very simple and cheap and were sold in large quantities in New England and eastern New York.
