Description:
United States Springfield breech-loading single shot rifle, model 1884 "trap-door" 45/70 caliber. Full length walnut stock to 3 7/8" from muzzle, 32 1/2" round steel barrel. Single flat swivel on trigger guard, double on forward band. Equipped with Buffington rear sight, set sight forward. No bayonet. Marked on the blue steel lock plate: US SPRINGFIELD and a United States eagle. SWP 1891 stamped into the butt on the left side near hammer. Marked on the top of the barrel V P and an eagle's head. Marked on the top of the lock US Model 1884 125961. Marked US on top of butt plate. D 2 51 cut into top of butt. S stamped on under side of butt. Complete and in good condition.
