Description:
Framed family register of the Vanhorn family of Springfield, Massachusetts. Done completely by hand in ink, and signed middle right "By C.P. Jr." The register is also dated at center "Massachusetts State, July 25th,.........1816," and numbered middle left "No. 316." The top of the register is inscribed "Family Record," below which is written "Springfield" in calligraphic text, which is set between two hearts. The heart on the left is inscirbed "R.V." for Reuel Vanhorn, and the heart on the right is inscribed "H.V." for Reuel's first wife, Helen (Bagg) Vanhorn. The register records the birth, marriage, and death dates of Reuel Vanhorn along with those of his first wife, Helen Bagg, and those of his second wife, Delia Stiles. Also recorded are the birth and death dates of Reuel's 12 children: Lester, Sophia, Lovicy, Mahala, Delina, Eliza, Lyman, Edmund, Delia Stiles, Samuel Elsworth, Benjamin Reuel, and George W. Vanhorn. A torn typescript note taped to the reverse of the frame contains additional genealogical information on the Vanhorn family, including the name of Reuel Vanhorn's sister, Eleanor (Vanhorn) Chapin, and her husband, Ashbel Chapin.
