Description:
One of two broadside-type Family Registers of the Powers family from central Massachusetts, which were inscribed on a printed form done by "PHELPS AND CLARK, PRINTERS, GREENFIELD, MASS." These broadsides composed with letterpress type could be readily reproduced for several members of a family. They were probably executed by small printing shops, itienerant printers, or in several cases, by family members known to be in the printing trade. D. Brenton Simons and Peter Benes illustrate an almost identical broadside family register as HD's example, which was issued by Hiram Ferry of Northampton, Massachusetts, circa 1827-1828. This Register starts with Oliver Powers (1781-1859), the son of Edward Powers (1754-1830) and his first wife Priscilla Curtis (1756-1808) whose family is listed on HD 2004.30.1, who married Azubah Carruth (1782-1858) in 1804, and lists their twelve children with the last date of death entered of 1906.
