Label Text:
Landseer, a child prodigy, studied with Benjamin Haydon and became an Associate of the Royal Academy at 24. He was best known for his animal paintings favored by Queen Victoria. John Russel, 6th Duke of Bedford, was a personal friend and an early art patron. Landseer, a frequent guest at his home, Woburn Abbey, often drew and painted his young second wife, Georgiana. Here, she is depicted by a window with small stained-glass panels. This is a room at Endsleigh Cottage, a country house near Milton Abbot, England, which was built for Georgiana and her husband in 1810-1816 and currently functions as a hotel.
