Description:
Woman's single shoe worn by Sarah Clark (b.1771) on her marriage to Josiah Brown (b.1765) of Stratham, New Hampshire, in 1792. The shoe documents the timely adoption of new fashions in footwear in New England. The unlabled shoe as part of a pair may have been made in New England (possibly even New Hampshire), or could have been imported from England, and London's shoe-making center.
