Label Text:
Das’s limited palette of black, red, and white, combined with his use of collage, produces a striking effect. Together with the range of different marks—which include stippling, broad brushstrokes, and sinewy contours—the frontally facing anthropomorphic form seems as if it were animated. Although a far cry from the depiction of Vishnu on the cosmic ocean, to your right, both Das’s and Bachni Devi’s works rely on a graphic repertoire of color and line, and showcase the traces of the artists’ hands.
