Description:
In the center of the composition is a man at a table or desk. He wears a flat, dark cap and places his proper left hand on his proper left temple in an attitude of concentration or reflection. Before him is a stack of papers or a book propped up by some indiscernable object, and to the right a candle is lit, attached to the back wall with a sconce. In the upper right corner of the composition, a curtain is visible.
