Description:
This is a fragment of a female figure who occupied doorways of Buddhist and Jain structures. A personification of fertility and nature, associated with trees and vegetation, yakshi is the counterpart of yaksha (male). This sculpture was probably part of an outdoor shrine which would be circumambulated by devotees.
