Label Text:
This explosive composition shows multiple figures, including women, writhing in a frenetic jumble. The visual language that Das employs here invites comparison with M.F. Husain’s heavily abstracted black-line paintings that appear in the film shown in this gallery. Yet, like Husain, Das also draws from vernacular practices. His repeated depiction of large-eyed figures in side profile, for example, recalls a standard idiom employed by Bengali patuas and painters from the Mithila region of northeastern India.
